"Getting Into Shapes" (Full and detail views)

The inspiration for this quilt came from a hammered and textured wall sculpture.
Using fabric I tried to duplicate the textural aspects of the metal. These fabrics include batiks, commercial prints, upholstery and hand dyed fabrics.
The spherical shapes are created with Lutadur painted with Stewart Gill and Jacquard Lumineres. Paper clay was hand shaped, stamped and painted with Stewart Gill paints.
The open areas were textured with free motion machine quilting. Hand embroidery stitches give life and spark to the darker center.
21.5w x 17.5h
