"Double Helixir of Life"

50w x 32h Click for detail
The inspiration for this quilt came with the thought of blending science with art. I have always thought that a DNA double helix strand is both beautiful and colorful. The double helix was created using Dupioni silk and then satin stitching the edges. Look closely and you will find DNA represented by couched ribbons and DNA patches using Stewart Gill paints. Appliqued circles depict the cell and nucleolus structure.
Dupioni silk, couched ribbons, Stewart Gill paint, free motion quilting.
