The fabric is now sporting lots of color that I applied with various "paints". The fabric is pinned on the design wall and waiting for the next step. I am currently cutting fabrics, yarns, and other things, pinning, moving and going through my process.
David can't fathom how I work during this step. He designs all his quilts on the computer and knows where everything is going before he cuts the first piece. He makes small modifications along the way, but his quilts are designed from the computer up.
I work with a basic concept and idea on where I would like to be at the finish. My design process is more like a walk in the woods, following paths, looking at dappled shadows, picking up leaves, and rambling from meadow to wooded area, and back again. I love looking at abstract and free form paintings to get ideas on composition or new color combinations.
