Well I cannot lie, I was disappointed that my Oasis piece did not make it into the SAQA exhibit that will be in the Mancusco show in Palm Springs. The announcement went out last Saturday. I have seen some of the work that got selected and they are great pieces. I have also seen pieces that were not selected and they were also great pieces, so I am in good company. I have spent a lot of time on trying to figure out why. Did it not play well with the other selections? (I will have to wait to see the show.) Did I not write an artist statement that fit the exhibit? I did struggle trying to write something personally meaningful in the amount of words specified. Perhaps I edited to much. I am looking forward to seeing the exhibit in Palm Springs. Last year's show was fun with some very interesting exhibits from all over the world. My favorite was one inspired by a graffiti painted in Germany. I will now look for other opportunities to exhibit this quilt or put it in a gallery situation and offer it for sale. Did you get selected? Did you not get selected? What did you learn from the process and what will you take to your next piece and your next submission? |
