David (along with a select group of other artists) have been invited to participate in an exhibit at the Visions Art Museum in San Diego, Ca. (Point Loma area). David is really excited to be included int this invitational only group.
This is opening remarks of the invitation email from Beth Smith: 'Hello artists, I am writing to invite you to exhibit your work next summer at Visions Art Museum: Contemporary Quilts + Textiles for an exhibition titled, Funny Bone. The exhibition will open July 15th and continue through October 8, 2017. The opening reception will be Saturday, July 15th from 5-7:00 p.m.' David has selected around 6 pieces to submit for consideration to this exhibit. I hope that you will consider visiting this exhibit during its run next year. It should be fun as all the artists have a fun, quirky point of view in their art. Hope to see you there. My favorite quilt made by my grandmother. All her left over blocks from her piecing samples.10/7/2016 This was the first quilt that David and I made together. This was made in 1992 for his grandmother's 92nd birthday. We presented it to her in January 1993 on her special day. We have recently gotten it back from his parents. It was fun to see it again and be able to put it on our bed for the coming cooler weather. David cut the strips of fabric and I sewed the top. We had it machine quilted by a local quilter in the Baptist fan design. I am happy to report that we still both like the quilt and I think that it doesn't look too dated and it actually looks great with one of my more 'modern' pieces that I have on display. This is the barn raising layout of the log cabin pattern. Have you made a family quilt? Do you still have it or get to see it? Let us know, we would love to hear about it. |
