There was some hand quilting that needed finishing, so I did that. I then wanted to add more quilting but didn't want to continue with doing that by hand. My sister, Bonita, said that she had successfully merged hand and machine quilting so that is what I did. I outlined some of the hand quilting by about 1/4 inch with machine work on my stationary head domestic machine. I wanted to fill in some of the larger open areas so I added the native american symbols for man (lower right) and woman (lower left).
After reviewing the piece for a bit on my design wall, I decided it looked a bit flat and uninspired. I dug out my Derwent Inktense pencils and blocks and gradually built up the color layers. I have some more color to add in different areas, but so far I am happy with the way it is turning out.
I haven't decided yet if I am going to do more background quilting in a dense design to pop the motifs or just trim, bind, label, sleeve and call it done. Opinions?
