The docents were eager to talk to David about the inspiration for these pieces. It truly was fun talking to them and pointing out the subtle heartbeat stitching that David puts in all of his "human condition" art. At the reception, we were able to talk to the juror (Bill Gardner, Editor in Chief of Quilters Newsletter) and several of the other artists that were in attendance. David was also approached by the Editor-in-Chief of The Quilt Life magazine (Jan Magee).
I cannot believe the amount of food they had for the reception. It was truly abundant. Too bad David and I ate a late lunch and were too full to sample any of the marvelous offerings. We went back the next day and the estimate was that 150 people attended the artist's reception.
We had a great time in Golden,CO during our visit for the show. It is an incredibly cute town (at least the part we saw). We stayed at a local bed and breakfast (Pansy's Parlor) and walked all over the downtown area. They even have a Starbucks! We visited the local quilt shop and the work studio/classroom. I will post more on them later.
The show runs January 31 through April 29, 2014 and the address is 1213 Washington Avenue Golden Colorado. If you are in the area, be sure to drop by and see all the great quilts. There was a wide variety of styles from traditional to art, hand quilted to machine quilted.
