Not only were there amazing engines and rail cars to look at and photograph, but we were lucky enough to go on "Ride the Rails Saturday". We boarded the train and circled on their track while we were educated about the history of the train we were riding and also some of the trains in the yard as we passed them.
While we were there we also sat in and watched a play that was put on by a local group. The topic was riding the trains in the 30's and the affect that segregation had on the passengers as they went from the South to the North. It was very interesting to hear the different opinions from both sides. Later, when we rode the train, the actors came and gave more history and background as we traveled.
I took a lot of photos and I think there may be a train inspired art quilt in my future.
