David submitted three (out of four) black and white quilts in this exhibit and we just got the notice that all THREE quilts were accepted to the show. How exciting is that? When I pulled the mail out of the mailbox tonight and saw the fat envelope I told him it was good news. He (silly boy) didn't believe his very wise woman. I told him if it was a rejection (I have gotten some of those), it would be on a single piece of paper. David was very pleased that all three quilts are going to be in the show.
David will have "In Our Comfort", "Stolen" and "Exploited" in the show. The last quilt of the series (tentatively titled "Broken") is on the design wall as we speak. All the pieces in the series deal with children's issues such as hunger, trafficking, forced labor, and abuse. David has been concerned that they are too harsh to look at. He has gotten some negative feedback that they are ugly. I told him it is because they are powerful and most women only want to see "pretty" quilts of flowers and trees. When he has gotten positive feedback it has been someone either involved with these concerns or they are familiar with issue art.
We will be busy packing and shipping quilts now that we have some in the Poway Civic Center SAQA exhibit "Fiber Reactions" as well as the RMQM "MANifestations" shows.
Again, Gillian, thank you for spotting this opportunity for David.
If anyone is going to be in the area at the time of the show, please take pictures or let us know what you think of the exhibit.
