This piece reflects a small part of the interesting personality of the breed of dog known as a Basenji. When coming up with a quilt for the theme Maps what came to mind was the Basenji's love for paper. I imagined the dog staring at the map on the wall and not being able to resist having a piece of this prized trophy, scheming a way to get it for himself. The scene is meant to show how proud he is of having torn off the bottom of the map and possessing a piece of it to shred into even smaller pieces.
